So I think I'm going to take a cooking class at Cambridge Adult Ed. There's "The Complete Indian Dinner" on May 1 for $75, "Eygptian Cuisine" on May 9 (after work) for $58, or "Gastrowine Tour of France" on April 8 for $41.There are, of course, many more offerings, but I want something with a tiny time-committment and a low price tag. Anyone interested in joining me for some learnin'?

I'm also thinking that a good use of my gym time would be to re-learn French, and need to plan an excursion to the BPL for some language tapes. Or maybe iTunes has something I can put on my iPod...

Edit: I have decided that it will be the Eyptian class. I'm gonna register now (though it looks like their secure registration isn't so secure, so I wouldn't recommend putting your card information through the site).

I have been listening to spanish tapes at the gym.
It actually is not too bad.

And the wine tastings at Downtown wine and Spirits in Davis are only $10. I got to try a bunch of different wines, although it was more laid back than a class. (depending on what you are looking for.)

Can't make the May dates, happy cooking.
:)

What tapes are you using? I know there are a lot of different offerings out there - I'm just curious which one you went with, and if you like them?

I went to the library and just made a copy of there tapes.

There was this really good one that was all listening, since it can be hard to follow books, but I haven't refound it yet.

We should really hit one of the Downtown tastings. Let us know the next time you're going to one?

There is a dessert wine tasting March 30 that I really wanted to go to but I got a desperate babysitting request. They also do beer tastings.

I will let you know when I am going.

I was looking at some of those CCAE cooking classes as well (and also the low-time, low-price ones). Fridays are tough, but the first two sound good. I'll confer with my cohort and get back to you.

The Egyptian one sounds very interesting to me. Are there any concerning Japanese cooking?

There's a sushi one, but since I don't do raw fish, I took that one off my short list. But they do have it.

Yeah, I'd rather not do a Friday, but thought I'd throw it in as an option just in case. Let me know if you decide you're interested!

Yes! I'd be totally interested in doing something like that. Is there a web site or anything for Cambridge Adult Ed? I've heard them mentioned so many times and I wanted to look around and see what was available.

Nevermind, I found the site. And I'm in trouble. I want to take so many classes!

[identity profile] wildflowersoul.livejournal.com 2005-03-18 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! Oh, good, I'm glad you found the site. There really are lots of neat things they offer, I figured I'd just narrow my first choice down by money and time. I still have my heart set on this for either the summer or fall. You could get in on the hot Tufts action, too!

hook it up

[identity profile] kpilo.livejournal.com 2005-03-20 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I might still be able to hook you up with the pimsleur french series in mp3 format. I don't know if it's still up on the server. I also have it on my computer but that would require a large email account. Or I could mail it to you. If you're interested send me your email addy and we can discuss further. Email me at kpilobel at hotmail
