Got my eyebrows professionally whipped into shape at an actual salon today. 15 minutes during my lunch break! How did it take me this long to figure out to do this?

I am also taking care of business like a BOSS lately. Planning stuff, trying to get our house refinanced... it's actually kind of fun.

Daycare's been sending home notes lately that West isn't eating his lunch and generally just having a hard time at lunch time. They keep saying that he wants what the other kids have, but then they don't give us concrete examples of what the other kids bring for lunch. Drew finally got them to be specific, and it turns out the other kids bring cookies and chewy granola bars (the kind that might as well be candy bars). Ugh. I so am not a paragon of healthy food supplying for West. He's so picky I rotate through the same 5 or so meals he's willing to eat, and trust me, it's not like they are that great. But I also give him fruit every day, I usually throw in a string cheese or crackers with some cheese spread, and a whole wheat Goldfish bread or mini pita. I'm trying the best I can to give him good food that's within the small limits of what he's willing to eat. So now I think I'll be making up some batches of cookies with hidden veggies or something, if I have to send cookies to make him not fussy at lunch I'll do it, but I feel guilty sending something that's a total sugar bomb.

Wow, no wonder they didn't want to be specific. It can't be healthy for kids that young to be eating all that sugar daily. Maybe every once in a while, but not daily. I think your lunches sound great.

And there are plenty of recipes out there for granola bars and cookies that are more healthful than the basic store-bought stuff. I know 101cookbooks.com has good things. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more secretly healthy yet still sweet recipes for West.

I know it, right?! Trying to not be judgey but I'm wondering what the other parents are thinking (or if it has become a tautology, where the older kids were sent with healthier lunches and went through the same issues so they became cookie bringers too). Plus the snacks daycare provides aren't the healthiest (sometimes snack is a cookie! double cookies!). I did find some newfangled Fig Newton cookies with no high fructose corn syrup and with whole grains. Poor West, everyone else gets awesome cookies and he gets fiber.

Thanks for the link! I think I'm going to get one of those Sneaky Chef cookbooks, too. Another wrench is that lots of healthier food recipes have nuts, and we aren't allowed to bring nuts in. I made this awesome mango snack cake with whole wheat flour and pureed mango (and chocolate chips), but it also has ground up walnuts, so I can't pack it in a lunch.

Wow, I am not looking forward to this issue. Q gets veggies and fruit. His snacks are plain yogurt! For dinner he sometimes gets a piece of avocado and some brown rice!
I feel guilty giving him yogurt bites sometimes, although those are freeze dried flavored yogurt so I would try sending something like that with him over cookies. Quinn thinks they are crack.

You might be lucky and have a non-picky kid. I think West's pickiness started around the 1 year mark. Lucky you!!

I'm not sure. He definitely does not like us feeding him anymore. He wants to eat on his own. We tried cucumbers and green peppers recently and I think he ate them? It is hard to say. He usually ends up with a crap load of food in his lap and asking for milk.

That's awesome. West will reliably eat carrots and sometimes peas. He gets some veggies when we have lasagna or when I make meatballs with hidden veggies. I offer him veggies with every dinner but figure it's not worth the fight to try to force them into his crying mouth. =\ Good thing we give this kid vitamins. Oh, and we recently had success with veggie burgers!

Whoa. That's awful. I'm so surprised by the junk people send for their toddlers. One kid only has processed frozen food and hot dogs, every single day. The freezer is full of boxes of crap food for her.

We don't send particularly imaginative food but he eats it just fine. Mostly chicken and peas or corn with little pastina or rice (pasta and rice are new for us). ALl very plain food bt it's what we know he will eat! For snacks he has plain yogurt, cheese sticks, or raisins. He eats the school snacks sometimes too.

Wow, frozen food. I mean, I can imagine the kid's parents are probably overworked, tired, and stressed, I'm glad it's not me in that position. Our rotation is pasta & meatballs, lasagna, quesadilla, chicken nuggets, ham & mashed potatoes, and yogurt & banana, with a few snacks along. We had awesome rotissiere chicken take out the other night and he didn't touch it, I'm wondering if it's more about him winning the contest of wills than about the food. I don't know.

Our lunches are chicken and peas/corn, peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, or whatever meat we had for dinner plus a veg. We do rotisserie chicken at least twice a month and that works for 1 dinner + 1 lunch for him plus a dinner for the parents. That's been a hit in our house for months! We also send breakfast... pancakes or french toast (made on the weekend and frozen), scrambled egg, baby oatmeal with fruit puree, waffle. He still doesn't eat any fresh fruit which is why we still do the baby oatmeal.

I have to try quesadilla again. He didn't like it last time but he's gotten better with food in the past few months.

We're totally failing at introducing new foods. Our own eating habits have hit a serious downturn lately and it's definitely impacting the little guy.
