...so i spent all of a couple days in Boston (Waltham, actually) and would like to settle something: the locals i spoke with surprised me, saying "Wal-tham" (both syllables emphasized, the latter with an "am" as.in "i am" value). this made me feel silly on account my eye - and sometimes mouth - kept insisting on Wal'thum. unless the natives were having a bit of fun with an Unsophisticated Hick, i'm guessing their pronunciation was the standard one (as.in Moody St. and Environs). any thoughts on this?
