We're back! We have consumed much beer and indie rock goodness.

So we flew out Wednesday night; it was a totally uneventful flight. I got absolutely no sleep on the plane, however, which led to my zombie-like state all day Thursday. We got into London around 10:00, wandered a bit, then collapsed in our room for a quick nap. After that we went down to a cute little pub and commenced to drinking. We then met up with the rest of our posse and explored some of the city for a while. This involved a ride on The London Eye. Had an amazing dinner at the Savoy Grill that night.

Friday we headed out to the lovely beach town of Camber Sands. Yes, an English beach in February is indeed as cold as you'd think it would be. There was one day of relative warmth, but otherwise, it was damn chilly. Our "chalet" was extraordinarily cold. So Friday night I saw Deerhoof, which I liken to Blonde Redhead gone insane, and the Melvins (who aren't really my cup of tea, but they are quite good at what they do). Saturday I saw Mogwai, Spoon, and Slint. I tried a bit of Bright Black, but they were far too slowcore for my energy level at that point. All three of the above bands, though, were amazing. So fantastic. Sunday I saw Neil Hamburger (who tells the most tasteless jokes in the world; I can't quite describe him except to say that he's so not funny that I was doubled over in hysterics), Pearls and Brass (they sounded very 70s, think Creem meets Soundgarden) and a bit of White Magic (who sounded like Cat Power, but without the je ne sais quois that makes Cat Power so very good). There was much drinking, and more drinking, and, well, more drinking. They sell 2 liter soda bottles of cider in England! Let's just say that I don't want to see Strongbow or Foster's for a long time now. Oh, and of course, there was programming on the tv in our room that Slint chose, which was just perfect. Turkish Star Wars. All in all, it was just such a great time. The music was great, being surrounded by a couple thousand other indie rock kids was a surreal experience, and the whole thing was a fantastic time.
