Oct. 13th, 2011 12:38 pmYesterday was a pretty blissful day. Took a vacation day so I could tag along on West's daycare field trip to the apple orchard. Google maps had some hella wrong directions, though, and I drove in circles around Amesbury for a while, missing about half the field trip by being totally lost. But we made it just in time for West to join up with his little friends and pick a few apples, then he got a cider donut. Not too shabby. I dropped him back at daycare and considered going for a mani/pedi, but RESPONSIBILITY won out and instead I: took car for an oil change, did laundry, and cleaned the red room. It was strangely satisfying to have an empty house and the ability to clean without being interrupted by a little person screaming or crying hysterically at me. And then after picking him up from daycare West was just a delightful little dude and didn't do much screaming or crying in the evening (the night have been hella bad lately, I think we have a sleep regression going on coupled with a nasty cold that won't go away). He is such a little person now. He's started playing a little game during diaper changes- I give him a toy to play with (because otherwise he just wants to stand up, which is pretty annoying when you are mid-butt-wipe), he hides the toy, I pretend I can't find it, and then he gleefully brings it out of hiding. He thinks this game is hilarious. I think this game is adorable, so win-win. He's talking kind of a lot now. We got a notice about the next baby sign language class starting soon, but he's at the point where he can actually say so many words and communicate on a rudimentary basis, I actually don't think it's worth investing in the class. Now if there were a class about how to get a child to eat some freaking food that is not in nugget form, I would be all ears for that. Our food struggle is unbelievable. Last night this kid refused a piece of apple from apple crisp and refused to try ham, but he gobbled up a mix of pureed beet, pear, baby cereal, and milk (I realize that is a big step back in baby-food-eating, but I wanted to get something nutritious in him... he did eat a broccoli/cheese nugget, some of a hash brown, and a cracker, too).
