Can you make the blood run up the walls?

Undoubtedly, the highlight of last night's Sleater-Kinney show was their cover of Danzig's "Mother." Priceless. Their new material just doesn't have the same energy as the old stuff. I like it, but it's not as much of an adrenaline rush as the old stuff was. I also really miss hearing songs from Call the Doctor.
Alright, I'm going to quickly recap our honeymoon, but for those of who don't read
eye_abstains, you should check in on his journal once in a while, as he has all the pictures and will be writing more entertaining entries with them than I will.
Thursday, 6/9- Flew out on a red-eye. Nothin' exciting.
Friday, 6/10- Arrived in London, and set out on a train ride across the country. Along the way we passed some canals with narrowboats and excitedly thought about the fun times we were about to have as we lazily skippered the boat through peaceful canals. Arrived at the small city of Chester, where we wandered around for much of the day. The city was surrounded by an old Roman wall upon which we walked, and we went on a spoooooky ghost tour with other tourists. I'm sure there was pub drinking in there somewhere. Oh, and jacket potatoes! You can get baked potatoes topped with curry! Went back to the b&b where we were staying and had some drinks in their bar before heading to bed.
Saturday, 6/11- Zoo! We went to the Chester zoo, and saw baby elephants, zebras, scary spiders, and walked through a big building full of bats. They keep the building dark, and you walk through, and the bats are swooping and flying all around you (seriously, I almost had one fly into me). After that, we began our grand tour of Chester's fine pub establishments. Drew made friends with a sketchy Scottish guy, who ditched us when a group of drunk folks dressed like cowboys (and no, they were not American) showed up.
Sunday, 6/12- Oh, the excitement we felt as we geared up for our trip to Witchurch to get on our boat and start our relaxing boat journey. Hopped on a bus and arrived in the sleepy little town a little early, so we grabbed lunch in one of the only pubs that appeared to be open. Then we went to the boat place, received a quick tutorial in which they assured us that piloting the boat would be both easy and fun. We actually didn't do too poorly that night, and only had to travel about 2 hours before we reached the suggested mooring point. So we tied up the boat and went up to the Wagoneer Inn, a little pub that is absolutely in the middle of nowhere. The owner was a very friendly man who wanted to know who we were and what we were up to (this happened a lot, it seems that pub owners out there are very interested in who's drinking in their place, and they actually cut people off when they think they've had too much).
Monday, 6/13- Perhaps the date should have indicated the bad luck that was about to befall us. Perhaps the bloated dead bunny floating belly up in the canal could have been a sign. But this was a day of terror. For we learned that the narrowboat totally sucks and isdifficult impossible to steer. We had many adventures that involved running aground in new and interesting ways, and discovered every shallow bit of the canal that existed. There were many shallow bits. We had some friendly folks help us out, others just boated by with a jolly laugh and yelled that it happenes to everyone. After many hours of struggle with the boat, we finally made it to the town that was scheduled to be our lunch stop, Ellesmere. At that point, Ellesmere was the most beautiful town I'd ever seen in my life, and we decided for the sake of our sanity that we'd moor up there and seek alternate transportation for the next few days.
Tuesday, 6/14- Shrewsbury day. Went down to the birthplace of Darwin and checked out the sights there. We walked around until we were too tired to move, and headed back to Ellesmere, where we visited a few pubs and recovered from the horror of driving the boat.
Wednesday, 6/15- Midweek, we had no choice but to pilot the dreaded boat a bit, as we needed to refill our water supply (though the idea of just not showering was beginning to sound good to me, to avoid dealing with the boat), and we wanted to get the boat turned around for when we had to bring it back to Whitchurch. We walked around a gorgeous lake and saw lots of ducks. I believe this is the night we hit up more pubs in Ellesmere and made some friends. There were friendly folks our age, and then some older people who kept buying us drinks. It was tons of fun, and I drank way more Bacardi Breezers than I had intended, but they just kept buying them for me.
Thursday, 6/16- Chirk day. Headed up to a little town in Wales called Chirk.Saw the 200 year old acqueduct and a castle that was built in 1295. After spending all day walking, we were pretty exhausted by the end of the day.
Friday, 6/17- Time to start bringing the boat back. We managed to get the boat down to the place where we had moored on Sunday night, with fewer mishaps than before, but with lots of panic and terror. Went back to the Wagoneer, where I made a new friend with some guy who knew an artist in Maine.
Saturday, 6/18- Finally, the most beautiful day, the day we got rid of the boat. We were supposed to be on it until Sunday, but we were very, very much done with the boat by Saturday. Drew piloted the thing back to Whitchurch without running aground at all! He had some mad boat skills that day. Headed back to London, where we splurged on a fabulously nice room at the Victoria Park Plaza. After a week in the boat, that hotel was heavan. We also enjoyed some slices at Pizza Express. I *heart* Pizza Express. You can have wine with your slices! Who doesn't like that. Walked by Buckingham Palace, which I had never seen, so that was neat.
Sunday, 6/19- We walked down the Thames for a very long time, so that I could walk over the London Bridge. It's just a big old concrete bridge, but I got a kick out of it anyway. Went to the super cheesy Clink Prison Museum, saw the Globe, and took a boat ride back up the river to Westminster. Then we gathered our stuff and went up to the Sherlock Holmes Hotel, which was really quite fantastic. I found an ad in one of our tourist books for a Trader Vic's, and not able to pass up a chance for a tiki bar, we headed there for dinner and drinks. Possibly the most expensive dinner and drinks ever, as it was a total tourist trap, but I do love tiki bars ever so.
Monday, 6/20- So that was that. Went to the airport in the morning, where we waited in the longest line ever, and watched some crazy guy try to cut to the front of said long line, and when he was told he had to wait in line like everyone else, he proceeded to yell and crazily gesticulate for about half an hour. Good times.
So that's the trip.
