So... Open WorldCat is going to allow anyone to go in and mess around with records with this whole Google project?

My boss forwarded me an article that says basically that, but I read it kind of quickly, and am hoping that they're going to be smarter than that. I mean, I didn't get this fancy old Masters Degree just so any Joe Schmo could log in online and start doing things with bibliographic records. Leave the cataloging to the catalogers! Think of the children!

Oh, and also- apparantly you don't have to be a lawyer to be a judge? Screw legislation, I totally want to be a judge someday!

I just found out that one of the lawyers who worked for the defense in the Sacco & Vanzetti trial was a lawyer in my law firm! How neat.

I'm feeling chatty today!

Yeah, you don't have to be a lawyer to be a judge...just a political lackey or hack willing to kowtow to certain interests when they come across your bench....

So... I gots to find someone for whom I can be a crony? Hmmm. I find the idea of being a judge rather neat, though, cronyism aside. I suppose it's just as political as running for office, but without feeling like you're trying to win a popularity contest.

First I've heard of it (I just woke up) - I took a quick look at the site and it seems what they're doing, in essence, is letting everyone access WorldCat for free searches. I don't think the general public has any more access to the creating/editing of record side of things that most reference librarians. Mostly it looks like we just won't have to have a log in anymore...nifty!

Ok, after re-reading the email, it says that people will be able to add notes, tables of contents, and reviews. So I guess I can get off my high horse about bib records =) It would be kind of neat to have reviews for things, I do find myself turning to Amazon when I'm fishing for good books on a topic that I don't know much about.

And I totally love that it'll be free and easier to use!

Hee, confused kitty.

I can't believe the bunny allowed himself to be strapped into a harness. Maybe someday....
