This weekend involved so many of my favorite things, it was totally a Jennie's Faves Weekend. First there was singing (and free dinner!) at Jake Ivory's, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cayetana and her co-workers. Seriously, free food, cheesy songs, and huge bottles of Corona. That's a Friday night. There was Buffy watching with [livejournal.com profile] tenillypo. I just love that show so much. Am very tempted to buy the big box set, but I've got to get my iPod fixed before I go plunk down $150 or so for dvds.

Speaking of my crapped out iPod- has anyone sent in theirs to get the battery "replaced?" I'm under the impression that they just send you back a new one when you do that... is that true? My battery just won't hold a charge anymore, and I've been iPod-less for a couple of months now, so it's time to do something. I really don't want to have to buy a whole new one if I can avoid that.

Finally, yesterday we got tasty Indian food while discussing our first Book Club book, The Ground Beneath Her Feet. I'm very excited that Book Club is getting off the ground, though not thrilled that our first book (which was actually one of my suggestions) turned out to be so meh. Especially when it was my one of my all-time favorite books five years ago. I ended up finding it very shallow and pedantic this time around. And precious. And pretentious without enough substance to back up the claim to pretension. It wasn't all that bad, just very disappointing to re-read it and have such a totally different experience with it this time around. Anyway, after that we watched four straight hours of Season 6 of Oz. So wonderful! The show totally became a soap sometime in late Season 4, but I still love it.

I suggest going into the iPod/Apple store in the Cambridge Galleria and having them tell you what to do or sell you the replacement battery. That way, you don't have to send anything away!

I had my battery "replaced", and indeed, they did just send me a new one.

For my iPod I just sent away for a replacement battery, although the tools they sent to pry open the iPod safely are bending rather than prying.

Even if the book was "meh", why didn't anyone tell me that Salman Rushdie was such a wonderful writer??
(Well, except for his excessive use of the word "quotidian". I lost count after 8 times.)

They're really good about sending you a new ipod and a label with which to send your current one back with free shipping. Or they'll send you a voucher for a new one. I think I've done it twice.

He is very lyrical, although I was left wanting more substance.... I felt like he wrote beautifully but didn't really say much of anything. Heh. Quotidian and "Dyionsian." OMG, that ceased being a good metaphor/choice of words after the fifth time he used it. I felt like every time he described something as Dyionisian (sp?) he was like, "hey! remember that I'm doing something oh so very clever here, remember that I'm rewriting the Orpheus myth!" That was grating.

Yes, very true. And when he did have a point, he pointed to it that same way and said see? see? Just in case you missed it. Like, when he was going on about a picture frame, and the only one who can really see the whole picture is the one who is outside of it (i.e. Rai and his camera and such)

yeah, remember when I sent my POD because it had frozen, they might as well have given me a new one, because they erased every fucking thing on it. I was pissed, to say the least.

And you're battery life has lost its vigor because you use it in the car. Same thing has happened to me. It usually lasts me about an hour, then I have to plug it in and get another hour out of it. Kind of a pisser, but listening to it in the car is worth it I guess.

Huh, I guess that makes sense re: the car. Now that we have satelliete radio for the car we won't be using the iPod that much in there!

What's even more annoying than getting a wiped-out iPod back is the way iTunes randomly deletes albums off of our library and messes around with our playlists. Grrr.
