We're back! The trip was very fun, despite some... adventures. Or near-adventures. Drew will probably write about it in a more entertaining fashion than I can, though.
I will say this- we pilgrammaged to Crumbs, and while they do offer tasty cupcakes, Lyndell's in Somerville (a convenient few blocks from our place!) trumps the fancy NYC cupcakes. I studied this with much science, and empirically found the Crumbs cupcake to be lacking in two key cupcake factors: structural integrity (a must!), and cakey consistency. The frosting was fluffy and creamy, thus gaining a slight advantage over Lyndell's, whose frosting is merely creamy, not fluffy. But the cake portion of the Crumbs cupcake tasted more muffiny than cakey, and crumbled apart too easily. The peanut butter cup cupcake was also a little too densely covered in delicious Reeses morsels, leading to further crumbliness and messiness.
So the verdict was: delicious, but not something for which I wanted to spend $40 for a dozen. After eating the cupcakes we finished our walk from 94th street to 4th street, which had to have been a few miles, thus negating any caloric powers the delicious baked goods may have had.

Date: 2006-05-23 03:07 am (UTC)Anyway, so Pearl Jam is Wednesday and Friday night. I'm going to see if my friend Jenna wants to come along, would it be cool sleeping at your place? Wednesday, perhaps Thursday night? Not sure about driving back Thursday night, because Shauna doesn't have school Friday, so I'm definitely going to want to spend the day with her.
Get back to me. Also, Can I get to your place (without getting lost) if I jump onto Mass. Ave. and just follow the "Squares" until Porter Square, and then perhaps you can write directions from there? Let me know about that too.

Date: 2006-05-23 04:27 pm (UTC)We're fine with you staying over, but we're hesitant about someone else staying too. Our place is small, and two people for two nights would be a bit much. Plus, there's only the couch to sleep on. So you're fine, and can stay Wed. and Thurs., but can your friend find someplace else to stay or just stay for Wed. night and not Thursday?
You can get to our place by following Mass Ave. straight through all the squares- keep going on Mass Ave. through Porter, then take a right onto Beech St. (just outside of Porter Square, there's a church on the corner of Beech & Mass Ave.). That road ends pretty quickly, what you'll do is bear a bit to the right to go up Willow Ave. next to the bike shop. Keep going up Willow through 2 traffic lights, 2 stop signs, then you will be at a 3rd traffic light at the intersection of Willow meeting Broadway. Take the right onto Broadway. At the first light you come to on Broadway you'll be next to Kelly's Diner- take the right onto our street (Rogers Ave.) and you're there!
Also, there is a pretty easy way to get here from 93: Take 95 all the way down past the exit for Route 1 (do not go on Route 1). Keep going on 95 until the exit for 93 South. Take that (be careful merging onto 93 South, it gets really busy around there and can be stressy). Take 93 South until the first exit that says Somerville. Take that exit, and exit to the right side of the ramp (ignore the sign that points to Somerville in the opposit direction, that's the lame end of Somerville-- the sign you'll be following will point towards Medford, but that's ok). Go down the road (Mystic Ave./Route 38) past a few car dealerships, you will see a crappy Chinese restaurant called Dragon Villa on your left, and you will see a Dunkin on your right. At the first light you come to, take a left onto Harvard St. This will be between a gas station and a car mechanic garage. Follow this street through 2 lights. At the third light, take a left onto Boston Ave.. This will be next to a gas station. Go straight until the first light, you will see Kelly's Diner in front of you. Go sort-of straight, but bearing a bit to the right, to get onto our street. And there you go!
