Ok, so I'm excited enough about a new cupcake joint opening in my neighborhood, but srsly, since when did cupcakes become The New Coolest Thing Evar OMG Tell All My Friendzzz? 'Cause that kind of turns me off.

I'm such a snob.

Besides, it's not likely that they'll be better than Lyndell's. I mean, I travel and scientifically test new cupcakes in exotic locales (such as: New York City), and Lyndell's has yet to be beat by cupcakeries that are far more fancy and expensive. I'm just sayin'. But if everyone and their brother these days is getting into cupcakes I may have to shake my stick at them and go put some vinyl on the record player to remember the good old days. Or something.

ANYway. Today I totally made a Google Calendar for my fall tv line up. Am I a librarian or what?

Cupcakeries wouldn't be popping up like cheap sushi joints if it weren't for Sex in the City. The sad thing is that as they do, they'll slowly drive business away from places like Lyndell's since hipsters want to try deep fried mojito cupcakes more than they need to patronize solid existing makers. La Contessa made great pastries. They lacked flash and now they're closed.

I know I was talking up the crazy Portland donut place that makes things like the maple bacon donut, but I've no illusions that a place that serves Captain Crunch frosted donuts is a place for tourists. Not necessarily people "from away," but folks who go out of their way for titillation.

I hear ya!

Though I don't think Kickass Cupcakes will be around longer than... let's say 5 months. They'll have a great first month or so when everyone in the area is like "hey new cupcake place!" but how many times a week can you really eat cupcakes? And at $2.75 each, how many of those suckers can you afford?

*shakes stick at the damn kids*

There's a side of the river that has cupcakeries... and that would be the RIGHT side of the river. =P

My god, the Bismarks at Lyndell's make me want to cry with joy. I have not had their cupcakes, but I look forward to it greatly, even if I'm abandoning Summerville for Cambridge, I will definitely be powderhouse-side more than a few times per month.

Ooh, I've never had their bismarks (because if that close to their cupcakes I -have- to get cupcakes). I highly recommend the cupcakes!

Where in Cambridge are you moving to?
