So, along the lines of my rant last week about music and how awesome the 90s were, I've become obsessed with finding old music videos on YouTube. This is what I spend my time doing while Drew plays Halo. I... have a problem. A problem that you can now enjoy!
Lots o' vids behind the cut. I don't vouch for their work-safeness, though I don't think there's anything glaringly bad in any of them. And if you're willing to watch YouTube at work, then you're either super discreet or your work doesn't care anyway.
We start with the classic "Not Too Soon" from Throwing Muses.
Next, a song that I listened to over and over and over, much to the chagrin of my poor housemates, I'm sure. Catatonia's "Road Rage."
I just really want to be friends with this band. They're too cute for words, and you should find a copy of "Pop Songs (Your New Boyfriend's Too Stupid To Know About)." But there is no good quality vid of that song on the tubes of the intarweb, so you've got Tullycraft's "Matchbooks from Motels" instead.
Is it pathetic that this song makes me cry a little pretty much every time I hear it? 'Cause it does. "Driveway to Driveway" by Superchunk.
Classic lo-fi. Archers of Loaf: "Web in Front"
The Spinanes. Such a great band. "Lines and Lines." I wish I could find a copy of Valency, but this will do.
The Afghan Whigs were one of the most underrated bands of the entire 90s. Srsly. "Debonair":
I can't find anything better than this crappy video, but it's such a good song, it needs to be here. Magnetic Fields: "100,000 Fireflies"
I am so twee. Is there anything better than a sweet pop hook? Velocity Girl: "Sorry Again."
Yes! My second-favorite Pixies song. It's Other Favorite. Ahem. "Dig For Fire"
How can I post about indie rock without including Sonic Youth? Impossible! "Teenage Riot."
Ok, I have to admit the only reason I started listening to Pavement was because I heard they had a song that dissed the Smashing Pumpkins. And then... I loved them. "Range Life"
I am also working on a compilation of trip-hop vids. Because trip-hop makes me happy.
