Augh. On my way to kung-fu (where I learned some bad ass sword skills), some doddering old guy who I suspect may not be licensed stopped driving, in the middle of the street, and proceeded to back straight into my car (which was also stopped, and my horn was blaring in full "what are you doing you moron" style). OMG. Who does that?

I think so, though I'll have to take a look in the daylight tomorrow morning to see if there's any damage. It was so infuriating, sitting there blasting my horn, knowing that it wouldn't make a difference because I had a frigging moron in front of me. Who keeps going when there is obviously a car behind them?! In the middle of traffic! The guy was seriously not all there and said he wasn't paying attention and was distracted. o_O I'm just trying to figure out how much I need to cover my ass to make sure he can't possibly try to claim it was my fault. I've been working in a law firm too long, I'm all paranoid now.

So you got his insurance info and everything? That's good. If someone backs into you, I really don't see how they can make the argument you're at fault. If he out and out lies and says you ran into him, maybe, but hopefully this guy isn't that much of a douche...

(The same thing nearly happened to me right around your house, actually. I was waiting for the light to turn onto Broadway by the liquor store and this guy ahead of my decided he wanted to back up and park in front of me for some reason. I was laying on my horn and he just kept coming. He stopped at the last second, though. Maybe it's something about Somerville drivers?)

I was in a hurry to get to kung fu, so all I got was the license plate number and the registration information, which he said was his name. He totally didn't even have a license on him. I am wondering if the guy should even have been driving. yeah, I'm worried about the doucheyness of him lying about it, which isn't likely, but I worry about crap like that. Somerville drivers suck! Except for me. And incandes_flower. Of course.

I should have walked to class, but it was so cold and wet. Figures that on a 5 minute drive this happens.

Heh. Well I won't claim to be a good driver, but I hope I wouldn't back into somone. I did hit someone head on in a parking lot in college going about 5 miles an hour. Yeah, incredibly stupid.
Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about that..it is obnoxious. If the guy didn't have his license on him, I think you don't have much to worry about. He sounds like he just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible.

We all have our parking lot oopsies lurking in our history! That's better than my taking out the side of my math teacher's truck the day after I got my license in high school. Parking and deparking is hard!

I filled out a police report last night, but I'm waffling on sending it in because I'd also have to send it to my insurance, and I don't know if even a totally-not-my-fault, no damage report would make them raise my rates. Stupid insurance.

Why don't you call them and ask? Say that you don't see any damage and that you're not sure you should file.

My inclination would be to file anyway, I mean, this guy could totally turn around and fuck you over.
