So I spent pretty much all of this snowy weekend on the couch, tearing through a couple of books. I'm happy to say that 2010 is starting off super well on the reading books front. There's a series about a lady partnering up with Sherlock Holmes to solve mysteries (and maybe have a teensy dash of romance), the first book is The Beekeeper's Apprentice, a title that almost made me neglect it entirely. But it's so delightful! So if you're looking for something to read, and you like mysteries with a strong heroine set in the past, check it out!

Had a very fun New Years Eve evening with friends (wherein I was lame and had to take a nap on the couch sometime after midnight... it had been a long day!).

I'm vaguely thinking about starting some sort of bloggable project for this year, but I'm not sure how much time I'll end up having to devote to something like that. Something to do with reading, maybe?

I just read a recommendation for The Beekeeper's Apprentice in another post talking about the new Holmes movie. Hmm... I may have to check that out.

(Also, you should totally do some blogging this year, lady!)

I think you'll really like the book! I only have it on the Kindle, otherwise I'd lend it to you. We saw the Holmes movie this past weekend, and I totally loved it. Well, it was a little too long, but every movie is these days. Robert Downey Jr is just so charming!

How was the hockey game? Was it totally snowing?

The hockey game was fun! It was snowing, but we were under the covered section, so it didn't really matter. We had good seats, and it ended just as it was starting to get really cold.

(Isn't Holmes adorable? I found the whole thing very charming. And Rachel McAdams in drag? YES, PLEASE.)

Rachel McAdams is purty. I still want to see The Time Traveler's Wife movie, mostly because she's in it. Though I think it will be depressing, so it's going pretty far down in the ol' Netflix queue.

I might be up for watching that with you at some point... girls' night?

Oh, I love the Mary Russell books. I won't really say anything so as to not spoil anything, but they're marvelous.

Yay! I'm enjoying them so much! Have you come across any other mysteries that have a similar feel?

No, they seem really unique to me - the whole Sherlock Holmes thing, and then the historical fiction aspect. And I don't really read mysteries all that much anymore. Her other series is also good, but a quite different feel.

I think my favorite was Justice Hall, which was her take on the classic English country house mystery. Although The Game, where they went to India, was also really entertaining.
