We must get these baby lit books, stat!

As for what I'm reading, I just finished 50 Shades of Grey. If you know what it is, I can assure it is exactly as hilarible as you think it would be. If you don't know, wait until you are not at work to google it. And now I'm cleansing my mind palate with an actually well-written, gripping, young adult dystopian future book called All These Things I've Done. Yes, the Killers reference is what sold me on it. That, and it has an awesome cover. I really would love to have time in my life to start writing again.

West is all "myself, myself, I do it self" now. It's pretty cute. I thought we'd turned a corner on the sleeping stuff, we have some good weeks now, but the past couple of nights have been not-great. I think he's pretty much night-weaned, at least. I give in sometimes if he calls for a milk break after 4 am because I hope against hope that it will make him sleep a bit longer (not sure that hypothesis is proving true or not).

That second one is definitely going on my to-read list. I think I'll live vicariously through your reviews of the first one, though. :)

Disclaimer: my favorite book as a child (3-6?) was the Ladybird abridged version of The Lost World. So, y'know, take it with a grain of salt and call me a hypocrite :)

I really don't think that those Baby Lit books are necessarily a good idea for children. They're great books, told with beautiful (and sophisticated) prose, that I hope West will enjoy the hell out of when he's in High School or older.

But just because they're good stories, that doesn't mean they make good picture books. They may be, I haven't seen inside - but I worry that it does no justice to the rich cast of P&P to tell it in this format, or that the plot of Jane Eyre is really one for kids.

There are thousands and thousands of really high quality children's literature available that was written for (or just happens to be great for) toddlers. Honestly, this looks like a marketing ploy for parents rather than books to kids.

And um. I'm worried I sound like a preachy busybody. Sorry! I've just been immersed in children's lit this semester! I would love to talk about kids books.
