Dec. 16th, 2007 01:18 pmA pretty damn good way to spend a Sunday:
Wake up, read internets for a bit
Shovel sidewalk, driveway, stairs
Brunch of bacon-wrapped-steak, eggs, toast, coffee
Watch Reno 911: Miami
Shovel out snow around car before it ices over, turns out to be surprisingly less work than anticipated
Hot shower with new Lush products (am now hopelessly addicted to expensive soap products)
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased. Even with all that shoveling and the knowledge that there will be more later.

Nov. 15th, 2006 08:56 amI woke up this morning thinking it was Friday. I was mistaken. *sigh*
So, this weekend Drew & I watched "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," and it was immensely enjoyable. Fast-paced, bantery, and hilarious. Are there other movies out there that are similar in style? I have so many questions for you lately, my awesome friends-list!
Kung-fu tonight (Monday's class was all kicks, I'm hoping we go over some forms tonight). I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I've started dabbling in running/jogging on some non-kung-fu nights. It feels like it's getting a bit easier, or at least, yesterday I didn't feel like I was about to keel over at the end. I hate running so much, but I figure I need something aerobic to do a few times a week along with the yoga/pilates/weight training. You'd think I'd be in better shape than I am with all this working out. Someone needs to forcibly remove the peanut butter cups from our house! Save me from myself and my love of Reeses.

Aug. 15th, 2006 09:46 amI have a confession. For the longest time after reading Beowulf in high school, I thought Grendel was a big old dragon. Then the dragon idea was deflated by "English majors" who apparently have better reading comprehension skills than I. So I then thought Grendel was a big old hairy monster. Imagine my disappointment when watching Beowulf and Grendel and finding out that Grendel was just a lame troll.
Man. My bunny's name isn't as badass anymore.
And, um, wow. That movie was a big old turd. In fact, it is on my list somewhere between the Star Wars prequels and The Mexican, though not winning the Worst Movie Ever award, as that is held by Unbreakable. Inappropriate colloquialisms, unmatching accents, Sarah Polley's wretched "performance," and Grendel peeing on a door for some reason. Ugh. I'd like those two hours of my life back, please.
Anyway, so that happened this weekend (sorry to the folks who saw it Friday, my logistics for seeing it couldn't work until later in the weekend).
But my weekend also involved ice cream filled cupcakes, so I can't complain. Science has proven that they are delicious. And the store has a variety of other pastries that can be injected with soft serve.

Aug. 7th, 2006 06:54 pmI'm sorry. I'm so horrified and amused by this video that I have to share. Britney Spears has some problems. I actually feel bad for Kevin Federline. No one should have to live with that.
ETA: the video is on a blog that has a lady in underwear as a background image, so it's probably NSFW.
And... I read too many celebrity blogs. I can't stop!
This weekend was loads of fun. Had some folks over Friday evening, went to Providence for dinner on Saturday, and yesterday was a great book club meeting (we talked about the book for longer than 10 minutes!) followed by a viewing of Talladega Nights. Not the best Will Ferrall movie ever, but it was still enjoyable and made me giggle. Plus it involved Sacha Cohen, and he rocks.

Jul. 26th, 2006 02:45 pmThanks to everyone who had words of wisdom in my last post, sadly,. I don't have time to comment back to y'all, but I feel more comforted. Still embarassed about having a problem I shouldn't have for like 20 years, but maybe if I'm better about watching ye olde salt intake it'll abate by itself.
And I just wanted to add that Westlaw's annotated CFR rocks my world and just saved me from what was potentially going to be hours of work. Yay, Westlaw!
Also, at some point, I need to see Little Miss Sunshine when it hits the theaters around here, and I also need to see the silly scary movie with Kristen Bell. And, um, I kinda want to see The Devil Wears Prada.

Jul. 14th, 2006 09:16 amHey folks, to celebrate Ms. Tenillypo's birthday, we are going to Pirate it up. Prepare to have your mind blown by CGI, Orlando Bloom's dreaminess*, and a script that supposedly makes no sense!
7:30 showing at Fenway 13, tonight. It looks like showings are selling out, so I advise pre-purchasing tickets. We have no clear dinner plan, as many of you all get out of work later than Drew & I, but if you want to meet up with us beforehand, just give us a call. Otherwise, you can smuggle a sammich into the theater! Secret sammich eating!
* Orlando Bloom's dreaminess subject to personal opinion. I think he's kind of uggo, but hey, to each their own.

May. 30th, 2006 12:26 pmSo yesterday, recovering from a weekend full of barbequeing and socializing, we rented Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room. It was a really good documentary, I highly recommend it.
Now I'm on a smart-movie kick and want to see Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" sometime soon. Oh, and of course, am also dying to see Snake on a Plane!. Best.Movie.Evar.
What was not the best movie ever was X-Men 3 or whatever it was called. Lame.
Oh, I finally watched the OC season finale. While I am very happy about the way it ended, this was an almost painfully bad episode to watch. Even Volchok was annoying. Next season just has to be better!

May. 26th, 2006 12:09 pmYou know, talking on your cell phone while you pee is just... weird. No one is so busy that they have to take multitasking to that level.
I'm also a little weirded out by people who brush their teeth at work. Apologies if any of you are that serious about your dental care, but bathrooms at work are not places I want my toothbrush hanging out for any amount of time.
Anyway, X-Men tonight, this time I promise I won't fall asleep and then ask at the end if Magneto is the bad guy I was simply questioning the moral amibiguity presented in the film. Totally. Lots of barbequing this weekend! Yay!

Mar. 30th, 2006 09:32 amWe are going to get another bunny sometime, and it will be named "Peanut Butter Cups." And it will love me. Look at this little cutie: cuteness. I think we're teetering on the edge of Crazy Pet People-dom.
Thank You For Smoking is an excellent movie, and I highly recommend it to all of you. Of course, Tivo was still set up to tape Law & Order last night, so I'll have to wait until Sat. for my Veronica Mars fix. Curses!
And, um.... I've discovered West Wing fanfic. *headsmack* I have a problem. Send help. Now I need to watch all the earlier seasons that I've missed.

Mar. 11th, 2006 10:39 pmNote to self: It is never a good idea to watch horror movies on HBO On Demand. House of Wax has officially supplanted Jeepers Creepers as the scariest movie Ever, of all time. Seriously. Though it gives me a small amount of comfort to think I would never make decisions as terrible as the decisions made in horror movies that lead to dire consequences. And I'm never dropping my AAA membership, because there's no reason to be stranded in a small town in the middle of nowhere with a broken car.
Bah! Must watch cartoons and Comedy Central to cease being terrified.

Nov. 20th, 2005 04:00 pmBilly Madison is on Comedy Central and it's amusing me. Especially seeing this guy from The West Wing as the villan.
So we had an awesome Pre-Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Extravaganza yesterday that was the best thing ever. Y'all brought some amazing food! Good food, good company... I believe there was some arm wrestling going on (I woke up with my elbow aching and was very confused about that until I remembered the arm wrestling). So I cooked a big old turkey for the first time, and it came out super tasty. That pleases me.
Harry Potter was pretty freakin' awesome on Friday. Very entertaining flick. I'm looking forward to seeing Rent when it comes out, if I can convince anyone to go with me.

Oct. 31st, 2005 02:12 pmUm, ok. So I may have written about this before, but I may not have, so I'm writing it now.
Part of the documentation we need to show Visa for them to cover the accident we had back in June with the rental car is proof that we don't have car insurance. So we have to 1) find a notary, which is going to a pain in the ass, and 2) have them sign something that says we don't have car insurance. Dude! With the power of technology these days, they don't have some sort of system in which they can look us up and see if we have car insurance?
So not worth the hassle. I will always be buying the stupid insurance that the rental car agencies offer. And I really wish we had a car of our own!
In other news, we had a good weekend. The Fabulous 20-something party was indeed quite fabulous. Kudos to P&P for throwing a great shindig! I got to wear my fancy dress and red stripper shoes, and that's what a good Halloween party is all about. I spent Sat. running errands and hauling laundry down Broadway in the middle of our first snow-squall of the season. Of course, yesterday was gorgeous, and would have been much better for hauling said laundry around. But yesterday we did girls' brunch, which was very tasty and good fun.
Tomorrow I do some more Democratic volunteering. It was fun enough last week. I stuffed envelopes and then made some phone calls. I kind of enjoy the calls, I get to use my sauve radio voice.
I'm feeling the urge to watch Harold & Kumar and Dude, Where's My Car again sometime soon. I want some stupid movie goodness. Oh, speaking of stupid movies, Drew bought Night of the Lepus this weekend, which is wretched and wonderful and involves killer bunnies. It was a bad influence on Grendel.

Oct. 3rd, 2005 12:43 pmThis weekend involved a good deal of domesticity, but it's the season for spending a day baking bread and then spending a day on the couch with dvds. Though I now have a serious OZ addiction problem. We spent all day yesterday finishing up Season 3 and getting into Season 4. I think I've become a little desensitized to the super-violence, but the story arc of the 2 guys involved in Hot Man Kisses is right up there with the Buffy/Spike story arc on BtVS. It's very squee-tastic. I am such a fangirl. I think the problem lies in discovering the internet fandom universe for the show- when others share your addiction it's much easier to keep it going.
Saturday was my bread-baking day, as I had to get a couple of loaves of pumpkin walnut focaccia together for a fall dinner/wine tasting with Beck, Nat, and their crew. It was a huge amount of fun, and I realize that I really need to be better about being in touch with those ladies for non-brunchy get-togethers.
Lastly, Friday we went to see Serenity, which rocked my socks off. So good! I'd even see it again... but on tv, I can't afford to see movies twice in the theater. So that's that.

Sep. 26th, 2005 12:18 pmWhy, oh why, did I ever doubt Joss? Sure, the concept of "space cowboys" is downright silly, and sure, I'm very skeptical of enjoying any show that takes place in space, but hot damn, Firefly is a good show. Sign me up for Serenity on Friday night!
Went over the Second Circle yesterday for a Firefly marathon.
mrs_muffin brought over some cinnamon muffins that must be laced with crack, as they are the best freakin' muffins I've ever had. I'm almost drooling thinking about them right now. We got home in time for our Sunday night cartoons, and I would just like to point out the power of the OC, as it was featured in jokes in both The Simpsons and Family Guy last night. I think the Simpsons won, with the California song playing over a clip of teenagers having fun and getting mugged by Snoopy. Mock all you want, the OC is a Pop Culture Phenomenon.
So, Saturday
ayelle put together a fantastically fun outing to Nashoba, for apple picking and wine tasting. And wine purchasing. I left with 4 bottles of wine... Drew got another 4 bottles and a barleywine, I think.
And Friday involved terrorizing the poor bunnies with nail clippings, and then tasty dinner at Christopher's, followed by meeting up with the Neil Gaimen crew for drinks at Grendel's Den.
So that's that, and it's another regular old week at work. Last night I had a horribly vivid dream about Grendel dying. It was very unpleasant and gory.

Sep. 6th, 2005 12:33 pmI seem to have come down with The Plague at some point last night, as my head is all stuffed up and gross feeling. Ick. Good think I cooked up some soup for lunches yesterday! Barley and veggies is about all I can handle right now.
So this weekend involved some quality time with my girls. We talked, cooed at
aquarianna6's uber-cute little baby, talked more, ate lots of food, and drank tequila. Drew and I also viewed some fine cinematic entertainment, in the way of The 40-Year Old Virgin and Transporter 2.
So I finished The Subtle Knife last night and have started on Amber Spyglass. I think I'm going to have to seek out everything else Philip Pullman has written once I'm done with these, I'm addicted. I should also finish Salt: A World History at some point, as I only have 2 more chapters to go. I have a problem with actually finishing books, I kind of get distracted and flit on to others before I finish lots of them.
Finally, big hugs to all my friends who need them right now. My ears are always here for you whenever you want 'em.

Aug. 22nd, 2005 12:24 pmSo, on Saturday, I discovered the awesomeness that is Haymarket. For you non-Bostonites, Haymarket is a big farmers-market-type-thing. It's not really a farmers market per se, but it involves a whole lot of produces that's sold dirt-cheap. It was amazing. Mind blowing, in fact. I picked up a pound of spinach for $1.00, and 4 bunches of parsley for $2.00. All for the bunnies, of course.
We also checked out the street fair in the North End, which was pretty cool. There was music and food, though the best food was the cannoli I had at Modern Pastry. We later went to Waltham to see Broken Flowers, which I tought was funny as all get-out, but that's probably because I took one little scene and continued it in my head, with hilarious consequences. I was silently hysterical for about 15 minutes, which I'm sure was more embarassing for those with me than it was for me.
Yesterday we lazed around, drank some shandies, and watched more Scrubs. I also attempted to make zucchini bread, but I must have done something horribly wrong, as it didn't rise at all. I have a somewhat tasty brick of bread now. I might have to try it again tonight.

Jul. 11th, 2005 09:55 amAh, summer weekends, how I love thee. Thursday night we did Trivia Night at the Newtowne Grille in Porter Square. I seriously thought that the place would be so sketcy and townie that we would have a lock on first place, but alas, for other young post-collegiates also thought the same thing. One of our teams came in 4th, though, which is something. I am so loving the idea of doing our own trivia nights at our place once the kegorator is up and running.
Friday night Drew & I used a gift card we had for Vinny Testa's to get a mostly-free dinner, then we headed to the theater for War of the Worlds. I actually really liked the movie, but then again, most of you know I have horrible taste in movies anyway. I was terrified and clutching onto Drew's arm for most of it. It helps that aliens are my number two fear, second only to spiders (I guess that's good, as spiders are actually real, and aliens are⦠probably not all that real. But I'm gullible! And easily led to believe crazy conspiracy theories! It's one of my charms!). That night I had a post-apocalyptic nightmare that the city was burning down, not because of aliens, but because a rum factory in town exploded. I don't even know if rum is even made in factories, but the dream was scary and involved a lot of running around and eventually having to kill a man, 'cause, you know, he was trying to take my stuff.
Saturday we enjoyed a loverly bbq in celebration of
cosmicserpent's birthday. There were sausages and meats, and some friends announced that they just got engaged. The Old Married Club is expanding. Yesterday was completely given over to laziness and lolling about. So that was that.
