I recently made the mistake of reading some particularly unfortunate books by Meg Cabot. Leaving aside my feminist problems with a character whose defining personality trait is her obsession with the averageness of the size of her pants, these things just were not well written.
Since I've been filling my brain with absolute garbage this year, I think it may be time for me to embark on a reading program. That list is bad ass. I am entertaining the idea of attempting to start a meetup.com book club group as motivation to actually attempt this list. Though being in charge of something like that would make me feel like I should have more of a clue about literature and stuff.

Date: 2009-06-02 06:55 pm (UTC)Im reading one of his books called "The Box Man" and its really good. Its about a man who decides to leave his normal life and live in a large cardboard box on the streets of Tokyo....thats all ill say because i dont want to give too much away...written in 1973. he wrote about 7 other novels as well that are all supposed to be great.
another Japanese writer who is great, Haruki Murakami, ive read one of his books "A Wild Sheep Chase" and i thought it was excellent...the one i want to read is called "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" is supposed to be his best....he's considered one of the best writers of today...
