I have worked really hard to not find any part of our house scary, and have been determined to not think "ghost!" while living here. Mostly because I don't want to be scared to get up to pee in the middle of the night. I'd been doing so, so well. I figured we were out of the woods anyway, given that we've been up at literally every minute of the night at one point or another this past year, and no remotely spooky occurrences have happened. So of course....
Last night during one of my half-asleep West nursing sessions (they have been going down in number, though, yay!) I had to pee, but I felt Drew get out of bed and heard him walk into the next room towards the bathroom. So I figured, oh, well, wait for Drew to get back. I waited and waited and thought that it was taking him a while to finish, then looked next to me and OMG, he was still in bed. Ok, no big, I chalked it up to being half asleep and imagining/dreaming things.
First thing Drew says this morning? "Either I was imagining things or we have a ghost." He had woken up in the middle of the night and saw me (or a me-shaped person) standing in the doorway to our room. Then he rolled over and saw me sleeping next to him.
OMG you guys. Normally my first thought is "Drew is messing with me," because I am a gullible, easy target. But I didn't tell him my story until after he told me his. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I am going to rationalize the hell out of this. I did in fact get up to pee last night, I am sure that what happened was Drew saw me going to the bathroom, fell asleep, woke up a few minutes later and didn't realize he had fallen asleep, and saw me. Yup. And I am sure I imagined him going to the bathroom because in my dream-mind I knew I had to get up to pee. And the a/c was making noises that surely sound like someone walking on carpet and then floor. No ghosts, please!

Date: 2011-09-01 02:08 pm (UTC)I had completely freaked myself out for a while because I kept having these "someone is standing next to my bed and just touched me omg" experiences. Then I read about sleep paralysis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis) and felt a little better. But if Drew had the same experience...
Why not try calling Ghost Hunters? They are really into helping families with small children be less afraid in their homes. And a house in Salem would be good for tv ;)

Date: 2011-09-01 10:39 pm (UTC)I should have known living in a house built in the 1850s would eventually lead to my crazy ghost fears. Also, we have a Mystery Hole in the basement that is supremely creepy.

I actually dread sleeping in my old bedroom at my parents' house because I would just start freaking out at every noise. That article helped me a lot.
Alternately if there IS a ghost, Tenille's suggestion is the best one -- stay friendly with it and make sure it doesn't turn hostile.
Yes I just explained away ghost sightings and then totally admitted that I believe in them. Even the false things are true. Don't look at me like that, I didn't do it.
